After a downpour the night before, we were a little worried about the rain for Petrina & Joe’s wedding, but the weather was perfect! We started out the day at Petrina’s parents home to photograph the details and some getting ready. We loved that her bracelet says “at last”, which was their song for their first dance.
The ceremony was at Holy Family Parish in Poland Ohio, which is one of our favorite churches to photograph in. It has such beautiful natural light and architecture. Joe might have tried to hold it back but he definitely got a little choked up as he saw his beautiful bride coming down the aisle with her father.
For bridal party and photos of Petrina and Joe we went to the Poland Woods and Peterson Park right in the middle of Poland. We haven’t been to that park in years, so that was exciting for us. The lighting and columns are so pretty there.
The reception was at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman. The details and decor were gorgeous and of course it wouldn’t be a Youngstown wedding without the cookie table! We had to fight back the urge to walk away with a cookie after photographing them 😉 There were two bridesmaids and two groomsmen and each of them gave a toast. They were some of the best toasts we have heard in a long time! We love the emotional reactions we were able to capture of Petrina and Joe hearing them. We hope someone got them on video because photos don’t give those meaningful words justice.
At every wedding we photograph, we try to create a unique end of the night photo with our couples. This can be a challenge at times when we visit the same venues repeatedly. At Mr. Anthony’s we have photographed by the glass blocks, the trees off to the side, and the tall grasses around back. At a certain point in the reception Josh ventured outside to scope out the options. He noticed that the clouds in the sky looked amazing and was trying to figure out how to photograph that direction when the background was just a parking lot. He noticed a large puddle from the rain we had the night before. He got really low to minimize the parking lot and catch the sky and it’s reflection in the puddle. He took the shot and ran in to show Petrina what he had in mind for their end of the night shot. She immediately dropped what she was doing and ran to grab Joe. We are particularly proud of this one because we were able to pull something off that was different to the others we have done at this venue.
Congratulations Petrina & Joe!
